Experience

I am currently working as an AmeriCorps member at the Providence Children's Museum. I specialize in educational outreach and enrichment with a focus on 3-5 year olds enrolled in the Head Start/ Children's Friend program. I was enrolled in the FSU Teach program while in school. The program trains STEM majors to teach science and mathematics to elementary, middle, and high school students. I received A's in the program and highly enjoyed my time teaching. At Florida State, I received an A in a historical debate class. The course had us read Roman works of literature and debate a variety of historical events from the perspective of Roman citizens. I compiled astronomy lessons for students with visual impairments (6-8th grade) during my sophomore year at the University of Washington. I presented my project at the Undergraduate Research Symposium. I have guest lectured for introductory geology, speaking to a group of 400-500 students. I am a geologist by training and have completed my university's field camp, which was stationed in New Mexico. I would be delighted to help any undergraduates prepare for their field camps, whether it involve physical preparation, gear selection, or tips on efficient mapping. Teaching is a major component of my job. While I enjoy working with 3-5 year olds, it provides little opportunity to utilize my STEM background. I enjoy tutoring STEM and believe that no student should develop a fear of math or science. The material should be taught in a way that is engaging, fun, and student-centered.
