Private tutor in Providence, RI

Education

BA Brown University, Class of 2015 Environmental Studies

Experience

I am a recent Brown graduate living in the Providence area serving as an AmeriCorps member at the United Way of Rhode Island. While I am not formally trained as an educator, the mentors and teachers I have had in my life have inspired me to want to give back through my AmeriCorps service and through tutoring in the area. Here's a bit about my tutoring background: I was a writing center mentor in high school and kept up with assisting my peers with writing exercises in college. While in college I was a tutor to fellow student-athletes, primarily in Spanish language and writing. I believe that I am not only a competent tutor for the subjects I listed, but I am also a friendly and committed person who could help make tutoring an exciting and worthwhile experience.

Hobbies

I am spending my first year out of college serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the United Way of Rhode Island. My role is "STEM Expansion Coordinator," and I am charged with finding ways to incorporate STEM learning into UWRI initiatives in an effort to enhance STEM literacy in the state of Rhode Island. AmeriCorps is a community service organization, so this position is not technically a job, but rather a year of service. I chose this route because I wanted to give back to Rhode Island since the small state and it's lovely people had afforded me so many opportunities during my four years of college. I believe it is extremely important to always give back to communities that help to shape you. I am an avid soccer player, and played four years of Varsity Soccer while at Brown. I still play and I am on a path to become a coach for a local club soccer team. I am excited to have the opportunity to coach since soccer was such a crucial element to my own growth and development. It helped to teach me time management skills, self discipline, creativity, and most importantly empowered me as a young woman to pursue my dreams. I also consider myself an artist. During my youth and throughout college I have taken art courses such as drawing, painting, and silkscreen printmaking. I still try to keep up with art whether that be through visiting art museums or seeking creative visual outlets. I identify as an environmentalist. I enjoy being outside and I especially love spending time on the coast. The perfect day for me in Rhode Island would be to take the East Bay Bike Path down to Bristol with a friend to spend the day on the beach.
